PHOENIX — Arizona State University has flipped the switch on its new 33-foot screen inside the Beus Center for Law and Society in downtown Phoenix.
The school said the billboard-sized screen — which makes a 90-degree turn around a wall — is used to display campus information, upcoming speakers, legal news updates and to show major events.
“We knew there was an opportunity to create a true community space here,” Edward Garcia, the Beus Center for Law and Society IT director, said in a press release.
“There is a pretty generous seating area outside where people can relax, interact and do work, and it’s right in front of this massive eye-popping digital display.”
The screen faces west and is designed to outshine the hars afternoon Arizona sun. It has NanoLumens technology, which includes a sensor to measure ambient light that communicates with the display’s software to adjust to all light conditions.
“It was necessary to find a technology that could remain vibrant in that environment, and there aren’t many,” spokesman Kris Jonson of Level 3 AV, the company that installed the screen, said in the release.
ASU also has the capability to split the screen into multiple windows, enabling the school to display several items at the same time.
