PHOENIX — Democratic lawyer and community activist Deedra Abboud of Phoenix announced Monday that she would run for U.S. Senate, in another potential challenge to Republican incumbent Jeff Flake.
Abboud officially put herself into the 2018 race at a gathering in downtown Phoenix.
“Arizona, I am ready to deliver for you,” she told a small crowd. “Arizona I am ready to become your next U.S. senator.”

Abboud founded the Global Institute of Solutions Oriented Leadership in Scottsdale in 2015. Her LinkedIn profile listed the company’s mission was “to be a rising tide raising all boats.”
Her law practice focuses on estate planning and interned at the American Civil Liberties Union in Phoenix.
Flake already faces an opponent in his own party, former state Sen. Kelli Ward. The Lake Havasu City politician ran against incumbent Sen. John McCain last year.
Shortly after that loss in the primary, Ward said she would make a bid for Flake’s seat.
