PHOENIX — A bus driver has died after a bus crashed into a fence on Tuesday near Poston Butte High School in San Tan Valley, police said.
Navideh Forghani, a spokeswoman for the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, said 74-year-old Jerzy Adamsyzk was rushed to a nearby hospital with head and “abdominal area” injuries and died shortly after.
Forghani said the bus was leaving to pick up students and was not carrying any students at the time of the crash. An assistant bus driver was on board during the crash and was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash and the cause of the bus driver’s death, Forghani said.
