Maricopa County offering free adoptions for most pets this weekend

PHOENIX — For those who have been looking to adopt a pet, the Saturday after St. Patrick’s Day may be their lucky charm.
Maricopa County Animal Care and Control are offering no-cost adoptions for most pets from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday as part of its St. Pittie’s Day event.
“It’s just free adoptions for dogs that are 20 pounds and bigger and our cats as well,” spokeswoman Melissa Gable said.
Not all pets in the shelter are free. Adoption fees for a dog under six months are $100, while dogs who are less than 20 pounds will cost $20.
The adoptions are being offered at both county shelters — one is in Phoenix near 27th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road and the other is in Mesa near Rio Salado Parkway and the Loop 101.
For those who are unable to get an animal this weekend but are still interesting in adopting one, Maricopa County is offering deals for the entirety of March.
