Organizers still recruiting volunteers for Final Four tournament in Phoenix

PHOENIX– The 2017 NCAA Final Four tournament in Phoenix is looking for a few good volunteers — a few hundred, actually.

The tournament is less than three weeks away, and organizers are working around the clock to sign more volunteers up.

“We’ve had a lot of people who have been helping us for the last six months and they’re great ambassadors for Arizona,” said Dawn Rogers, executive director of the Phoenix Local Organizing Committee.

The event is more than just games. Leading up to the college basketball championship, there is four days of fun in Phoenix, including the Fan Fest and March Madness Music Fest, which will be headlined by Aerosmith.

But Roger said organizers cannot pull the event off without volunteers.

About 2,800 people have registered so far, Roger said, adding that she would like to see that number up to 3,000 in order to make sure all the shifts are completely filled.

“They just really enjoy giving back to their community and we couldn’t put on an event like this without the volunteers,” Rogers said. “So we’re really appreciative of their time.”

And there’s a bonus gift, too: Rogers said each volunteer gets to take home a polo shirt, hat and a clear drawstring bag, all of which are branded with the official Phoenix Final Four logo.

Anyone looking to volunteer can register online, but organizers are asking volunteers to commit to at least three shifts and to attend training, which takes place on March 15 and 16.
