PHOENIX — The luxury car brand BMW announced Thursday it would open a full-service car dealership in a Phoenix suburb, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.
The dealership is set to be located near Loop 101 and Union Hills Road and is expected to employ as many as 200 people. The complex will be located near Aspera, a mixed-use project that houses an apartment complex and a Mountainside Fitness on the site.
“The full-service dealership will offer sales, service, leasing and repair,” the publication wrote. It will also have an Alpina designation, which brands itself as a “manufacturer of exclusive automobiles.”
Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps told the Phoenix Business Journal that the Alpina designation is significant because lawmakers believe it is “reflective of the market expendable income we have here in Glendale.”
“[The dealership is] going to create a ton of great jobs,” Phelps said in an interview with the Phoenix Business Journal. “The city of Glendale will benefit more from them being here.”
The move was cemented on Thursday, after Glendale City Council members voted to sell the 13-acre property to a development company for $2.4 million.
The city of Glendale had originally planned to develop a Park-and-Ride lot on the property and paid $2.4 million for the same property a month ago.
