PHOENIX — It seems as if spring has officially sprung in Phoenix, as the National Weather Service said the Valley will flirt with highs near 90 degrees later this week.

After seeing highs in the mid-60s on Monday, Phoenix is expected to heat up in a big way as the week goes on.

“We could push the mid- to upper 80s in the Phoenix metro,” Travis Wilson with the weather service said of Friday’s forecast.

“I don’t think we’re going to hit 90, but it’s certainly going to be close and not out of the realm of possibility.”

Tuesday’s high is expected to be in the upper 70s, while highs on Wednesday and Thursday will be in the mid-80s.

The Valley has enjoyed relatively cooler weather this year compared to last. In 2016, Phoenix recorded its earliest 90-degree day of the year in mid-February.

But even with last year’s record, a potential 90-degree day in early March is a little ahead of normal.

“The average first date of 90-degree temperatures is March 31, so if we did hit it on Friday it would be quite earlier than average,” Wilson said.

The weather will cool off slightly after Friday. This weekend should see highs in the mid-80s.
