PHOENIX — A 7-year-old child has been transported to a local hospital after being struck by a car in a Phoenix suburb Friday afternoon, El Mirage police said.
Sgt. Chris Culp with the El Mirage Police Department said in an email the child was struck near Main Street and Windrose Avenue and was airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital shortly after.
Culp said the child had just gotten out of school for the day when he walked into the street, in front of a white truck. The child did not use a crosswalk, Culp said.
The driver of the vehicle, who has not been identified, got out of the car and waited for the fire department to arrive. Culp said alcohol or speed did not appear to be a factor.
The child was “talking and alert,” Culp said in the email, before being transported to the hospital for “precautionary reasons.”
The injuries and condition of the child are unknown at this time.
