Arizona jail’s advertising program gains first participant

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz — An attorney advertising service created by a sheriff’s department in northern Arizona received its first participant this month.

The Arizona Daily Sun reported that the Coconino Sheriff’s Department began allowing local lawyers to advertise at the entrance of the Coconino County Detention Facility last year. All proceeds will go to an inmate welfare fund.

Coconino County Detention Commander Matt Figueroa says attorneys seemed interested in the program but there was no participation until this month, when Flagstaff-based Kaiser Law Group agreed to advertise.

Figueroa believes the high cost may have deterred some potential advertisers. The sheriff’s office originally planned to charge $5,000 per year for a 14-by-11-inch space, but has slashed the price to $2,500 per year.

Attorneys from the Kaiser Law Group were unavailable for comment.
