PHOENIX — Grand Canyon University officially opened a new commercial complex in Phoenix on Wednesday.
The complex — located near 27th Avenue and Camelback Road — includes a renovated hotel, a new restaurant and economic/education innovation center.
“The development is part of our broader vision to return the area into a safe, middle-class neighborhood,” GCU President Brian Mueller said. “There’s more work to be done, but this new commercial space will continue to extend prosperity into our surrounding neighborhood and spur economic growth in the West Valley.”
Economist Elliott Pollack explained to a crowd at the opening how much the complex should return to the area in taxes over the coming decade.
“There’ll be about $300 million to the state, about $85 million to the county and about $73 million to the city of Phoenix,” he said.
The four-story office complex on the property will also house student-service departments. The innovation center will house GCU’s New Business Development Center.
