I-10 construction to shut down freeway exit south of Phoenix for 2 years

PHOENIX — Freeway drivers south of Phoenix should expect to take a detour for the next two years because of road construction on Interstate 10.

Construction of a bridge that will cross over the freeway and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, shut down the Ina Road exit on I-10 starting Wednesday near Marana.

The closure from Milepost 248 to 249 went into effect at 1 a.m.

The overpass will be about 25 feet above ground.

The project will widen I-10 to four lanes of traffic in each direction, expand Ina Road to two lanes in each direction and reconstruct the frontage roads.

According to Marana’s website, the project should ease the flow of traffic and improve safety.

The Regional Transportation Authority of the Pima Association of Governments and Marana were funding the $145 million project. Marana kicked in $25 million.

The Arizona Department of Transportation, which is supervising the project, said the road work will be completed in early 2019.

Marana planned to provide accurate and up-to-date information on the Project Ina app, so drivers know what to expect.
