PHOENIX — It’s time to bust out the shorts and T-shirts again, Phoenix: The National Weather Service said the Valley will see its first 80-degree weather of 2017 this week.
“We’re going to warm up pretty rapidly on Wednesday and Thursday,” Austin Jamison with the weather service said. “Thursday will probably be the warmest day of the week.”
The forecast calls for a high of 74 degrees Wednesday, but that jumps to 84 degrees on both Thursday and Friday.
Jamison said, while spring-like weather is arriving a little ahead of schedule, it’s not exactly rare.
“It’s not unheard of at all to get into the 80s in February,” he said. “It still is a little early. We’ll be within two or three degrees of the record, so it’s definitely a good 10 degrees above normal.”
Last year, Phoenix saw a high of 90 degrees on Feb. 17. It was the earliest 90-degree day in the city’s history.
The warm weather will not stick around for long. A storm front is expected to move into the Valley over the weekend that will send highs dropping nearly 20 degrees.
Saturday’s high is expected to be about 70 degrees, while Sunday’s is just 64.
Lows will also fall. Overnight temps are expected to hover around 60 degrees through Friday night, but will drop into the upper 40s by Sunday night.
