Poor little Peanut has been through a lot: He’s survived being set on fire as a puppy, is a rescue and now was awarded the dubious honor of “World’s Ugliest Dog.”
The lucky owner of this bundle of joy is Holly Chandler, of Greenville, N.C. According to MLaughing Squid, she said she entered Peanut in the competition, held annually at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, Calif., to raise awareness for abused pets.
“It will not be about winning or losing. It will solely be about telling people his story and showing that we cannot stick our heads in the sand,” said Chandler. “Animal abuse happens, it is time to face it and come together to stop it.”
When he was just a puppy, Peanut was set on fire, causing him to lose his lips and unable to close his eyes, because his eyelids were burned.
Chandler said she often gets rude looks or comments, when Peanut goes out in public. She added that despite his appearance, 2-year-old Peanut is a happy, healthy pup.
She is using the $1,500 prize money to help pay the vet bills of others.
