Apache Trail in Arizona ranked among best scenic drives in US

PHOENIX — Let’s face it: After a long, hard work week, going for a relaxing drive with the windows down and the music blasting can be the most enjoyable experience.

If you are looking to go on a scenic drive in Arizona, look no further. The Apache Trail was ranked the best scenic drive in the state, according to Business Insider.

The Apache Trail was originally a stagecoach trail that ran through the Superstition Mountains and currently links Apache Junction to Theodore Roosevelt Lake. Today, it runs 198 miles long.

Part of the road is known today as State Route 88 and runs though mountainous terrain to urban areas like Mill Avenue in Tempe.

But, if you’re willing to go off the beaten path, Business Insider says you should prepared to go through ” stunning canyons, desert scenes, and geologic formations that lie right outside of Phoenix.”

If you are looking to explore outside of Arizona, some nearby scenic drives include Pacific Coast Highway in California (which you should explore during non-rush hours), Valley of Fire highway in Nevada and High Road to Taos in New Mexico.
