Budweiser Super Bowl ad shows immigrant founder’s treacherous journey to America

Feb 1, 2017, 9:27 AM | Updated: 9:30 am

America is a wonderful place, full of many opportunities, prime-time football games and, of course, beer.

For its annual Super Bowl commercial, titled “Born the Hard Way,” Budweiser decided to highlight its founder’s treacherous journey to America to pursue his dream of brewing beer.

The commercial shows Adolphus Busch, the co-founder of Anheuser-Busch, make his way from Germany to America in the mid-1880s.

In America, Busch meets locals who want him to “go back home,” battles fires and travels by boat, only to make his way to St. Louis and meet his eventual business partner, Ederhard Anheuser.

In a statement, Anheuser-Busch said Busch’s story is one of “commitment, passion and never giving up or backing down.”

“Budweiser believes freedom and the pursuit of the American dream are nothing without ambition, something the brand has believed throughout its 141-year history,” the statement read.

In a time where tensions are high over allowing immigrants into the U.S., Budweiser wants to remind viewers that, if it was not for immigrants, they would not be able to sip on a cold brew this Super Bowl Sunday.
