PHOENIX — Arizona native Emma Stone recently won a Golden Globe Award and it could soon be joined on the trophy shelf by an Academy Award.
The actress was nominated for her role in “La La Land.” The film leads the 2017 Oscars field with a record-tying 14 total nominations.
“This is a film for dreamers,” Stone said at the Golden Globes ceremony. “For any creative person who has had a door slammed in their face, metaphorically or literally … I share this with you.”
The path to holding the golden statue isn’t an easy one, however. Stone will have to beat out Isabelle Huppert (“Elle”); Ruth Negga (“Loving”); Natalie Portman (“Jackie”); and Meryl Streep (“Florence Foster Jenkins”).
Stone is no stranger to the Oscars, as the 28-year-old has had a tremendous amount of success in her young career. This year’s nomination is her second for an Academy Award — she did not win for her role in 2014’s “Birdman” — and she has been nominated for three Golden Globes, one of which she won earlier this year.
Stone was born and raised in Scottsdale and pursued acting throughout her time in the Valley. She attended Xavier College Preparatory, an all-female private high school in Phoenix before dropping out and moving to Los Angeles with her mother at the age of 15.
