Weekend storms bring rain and snow with more on the way

PHOENIX — A weekend winter storm brought rain to the Valley and heavy snow to the north.
The three-day storm snowfall report from the National Weather Service has snowfall totals up north as high as 33 inches in Forest Lakes as of Saturday night after the first two storms. Flagstaff Airport had 22.8 inches of snow while Grand Canyon Village had a total of 13 inches.

The National Weather Service said the third storm is expected to move in later on Sunday.
The snow with the combination of high winds caused near white-out conditions, making travel extremely difficult if not impossible for most parts of northern Arizona.
Even with those conditions, local power crews were out to restore power outages.

Meanwhile, in the Valley, the rain caused flooded roadways and resulted in a water rescue near Queen Creek.

Sunday’s high is expected to be around 62 before another system rolls through the area Sunday night into Monday, bringing with it more rain and snow. Flagstaff could see an additional 8 to 12 more inches of snow while parts of the Valley could see 0.25 of an inch of rain. Those storms in the Valley are expected to bring some of the coldest temperatures of the year in the middle of next week.
