PHOENIX — Browsing the internet on a smartphone or another device is a pretty common activity on public transportation.
Doing so can really eat into your data allowance, but if things go according to plan, that could soon be a thing of the past on the Phoenix-area light rail.
Valley Metro is testing free Wi-Fi on two of its light rail trains this month. If you see a purple decal on the train, that means you are able to connect at no charge.
“The log-in information is also placed on those decals on the trains,” Ann Glaser with Valley Metro said.
Valley Metro is encourages those who partake in the Wi-Fi testing leave feedback online.
“Testing is being conducted to understand the effectiveness of the service that we’re testing and how it could potentially be offered on Valley Metro Rail,” Glaser said.
Depending on the feedback, Valley Metro said riders could start seeing Wi-Fi on all light rail trains as soon as the end of this year or early 2018.
