PHOENIX — Two skydivers collided in midair over Arizona on Wednesday, injuring one, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said it received a call about 10:30 a.m. from the Eloy Police Department about the incident.

An initial investigation showed the two collided and one skydiver was knocked unconscious. His emergency chute deployed, but he was unable to control it and had a hard landing.

The skydiver was taken to a hospital for surgery. His condition is unknown.

The other skydiver was not hurt.

Neither skydiver has been identified.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

Eloy, a popular destination for skydiving, has seen a string of injuries caused by the sport in recent years. From late December 2015 to early February 2016, three skydivers died at an Eloy-based facility.

However, that has not deterred thrill-seekers. The number of annual jumps has been steadily increasing since 2006.

We want to hear from you.
