Homelessness in Arizona: A conversation with Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and others

Under Mayor Greg Stanton, Phoenix has become the first U.S. city to end chronic homelessness among veterans and is moving towards ending chronic homelessness altogether.
Embodied in the principle of “housing first,” the approach is an adaptation of others that have proven successful in other cities.
Stanton joins the Think Tank this week and is joined by two experts who have marshaled both public and private resources to address the issue:
- Stanton has been mayor of Phoenix since 2011.
- Bruce Liggett is the director of the Maricopa County Human Services Department
- Amy Schwabenlender is vice president of community impact for Valley of the Sun United Way. She leads the agency’s efforts to end hunger, homelessness and increase financial stability.
