Hanging 10, catching waves under Iceland’s Northern Lights
When you think of surfing, the chances are you think of places like Southern California or Hawaii. But what about Iceland?
Adventure photographer Chris Burkard recently went to the Nordic island country in the North Atlantic Ocean to document a place where surfers ride the coldest and most punishing waves on the planet. Instead, he got an adventure for himself.
Burkard’s original shoot was canceled due to one of the most brutal storms to hit the country in years, but he wasn’t deterred from getting his shot. Instead, he waited and the wait turned out to be worth it, as Burkard was able to capture stunning images of surfers under the greatest natural light show produced on the planet.
