PHOENIX — Four people were killed Tuesday after a small plane crashed in central Arizona, authorities said.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that the plane crashed north of Payson, northwest of the Washington Park area.

The sheriff’s office originally said three were dead and one person was missing, but later posted that searchers had located the fourth victim’s body.

The group, two adults and two teenage girls, none of whom have been publicly identified, was traveling from Scottsdale to Telluride, Colorado, when the plane went down.

The police report said a man told police his daughter, son-in-law and two girls, 12 and 14, didn’t check in after planning to fly to Telluride.

The sheriff’s office was notified about the missing plane by Scottsdale police. The plane was found after it was reported to be overdue.

A cellphone was pinged, which led authorities to the site.

A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said the plane was a Cessna 210. The cause of the crash was under investigation.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
