PHOENIX — The Motor Vehicle Division announced that starting Jan. 1, 2017, certain vehicle fees and taxes will be waived for survivors of military members that were killed in service to the United States.
In a press release, it explains that the state law will remove the vehicle registration fee and the Vehicle License Tax for one vehicle registered to an eligible surviving spouse who’s an Arizona resident.
This benefit will apply to anyone that is a surviving spouse or dependent of anyone who was killed or died from resulting injuries suffered from the line of duty of the U.S. military, National Guard, Coast Guard and Reserves.
In order to check eligibility, please visit a MVD or Authorized Third Party office and present a U.S. Department of Defense Form 1300 Report of Casualty. Furthermore, those interested will also have to fill out an MVD Survivor of Fallen Military Member Exemption form, which can be found on the Arizona Department of Transportation website.
Eligibility will void if a spouse re-marries, and if a dependent aged 18-23 cannot show they are taking at least 12 hours of classes.
