PHOENIX — Arizona may be larger than you think, and that’s not in reference to the states’ population or wide open spaces.
A new study from the personal-finance website WalletHub ranked Arizona as the 13th-fattest state in the country.
The report ranked all 50 states and the District of Columbia using 17 different metrics, such as percentage of adults and children who are overweight or obese, and sugary-beverage consumption among adolescents.
According to the report, Arizona’s weight problem may start with its children. The state held the seventh-highest percentage of children who are obese, and ranked 13th in percentage of overweight children.
Adding to the problem, the study said Arizona had the tenth highest obesity-related death rate nationwide. The state placed 11th for percentage of residents with high cholesterol.
