PHOENIX — A nighttime food run has ended up costing a Valley man his freedom.

Police in unmarked cars followed Josh Adkins, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, on a lazy drive through East Valley streets Wednesday, that included a stop at an In-N-Out drive-through.

Fox 10 Phoenix reported that Adkins pulled into the fast-food spot’s parking lot near Priest Drive and Ray Road in Chandler and rolled down the window.

He didn’t stick around for the pick up, though.

“They never opened the window for him,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said. “He was not provided service, so that is why there was never an interaction with the employees.”

Instead, Adkins drove into a nearby Phoenix neighborhood, then got out the truck. Police eventually caught up to him after Adkins tried to break into the back door of a house.

A news helicopter directed officers to his whereabouts.

Adkins was taken into custody in the yard.

According to jail records, 35-year-old Adkins for booked on suspicion of unlawful flight from law enforcement, aggravated assault-domestic violence and unlawful imprisonment.
