Tucson ranked among top active living communities

When it comes to active living communities, Tucson’s community is ranked No. 27 in the country.
According to a report from infohealthways.com, that was developed by Gallup-Healthways, it took a look at the state of American well-being and the active living environment within 48 medium-to-large size metro communities across the country.
The report looked at how communities invest in bike paths, parks, walkability and public transit that residents have.
The Old Pueblo scored a 45.5 for active living including having a 41.2 walking score, 67.9 biking score, 34.2 transit score, and a 38.5 park score.
Tucson ranked below Las Vegas, which had an overall active living score of 45.9.
The website ranked Boston No. 1 with a score of 74.9. The city scored high marks for walking, 80.7, biking 70.3, transit, 74.4 and park score 74.0.
The residents in the five highest active communities in Boston, San Fransico, Chicago, New York and Washington have significantly lower rates of smoking, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and depression. The residents in those communities also have significantly higher rates of exercise, healthy eating, fresh produce consumption and those thriving in physical well-being as compared to residents in communities with lower active living infrastructure.
