LISTEN: Congressman Trent Franks

PHOENIX — An Arizona congressman said Tuesday that voters who cast a ballot for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton should be prepared to lose the Constitution.

“Even if we (Republicans) hold the Senate, even if we hold the House, if we put Hillary Clinton in as president, we lose the Constitution,” U.S. Rep. Trent Franks told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Mac & Gaydos.

Franks argued that any Supreme Court nominee that Clinton would present would be far more liberal than the Founding Fathers intended and, because of this, would be in a position to undermine the highest law of the land.

“Ultimately, I think all of us have to keep our eye on the big picture and, if this republic is to remain intact for our children and grandchildren, we must not elect Hillary Clinton as president,” he said.

The largest issue Franks took umbrage with was abortion. He claimed that Clinton’s policies allow and encourage governments to “dismember little, tiny, unborn women.”

“For decades, the mantra of the left has always been: ‘Don’t hold yourself constrained by the truth. It doesn’t matter what the Constitution says. There’s no right or wrong. The Golden Rule be damned,'” Franks said.

“And they’ve said, “Go out, do anything you want. Murder your children, even if they survive abortion.'”

While Franks admitted Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has issues of his own — specifically mentioning a 2005 tape of him making extremely lewd comments about women — he said he hopes Americans can learn to differentiate between Trump’s words and Clinton’s policies.

To explain his thinking, Franks gave an analogy of America as a burning home.

“If my house was burning down and my children and everything I loved was inside and the fire truck arrived and the firemen jumped out and were trying to save everything I loved – maybe they were being vulgar in their communications with each other trying to do what they could in a very difficult moment – that would probably be a subordinated concern to me given the fact that they’re trying to save everything that I care about,” he said.

He also said Democrats have a tendency to move the United States toward an “anything goes” mindset but feign outrage when things apparently go too far.

Franks recognizes that Americans want to choose a perfect candidate, but that doesn’t exist.

“Jesus is not on the ballot, just for the record,” he said.

However, he said those that stay at home because they don’t like either candidate are basically voting for Clinton.

“There’s three ways you can vote for Hillary Clinton: You can pull a lever for her, you can write somebody’s name in that can’t possibly win or you can stay at home and drink a milkshake while this republic goes down the drain,” he said.
