Movies in a Minute: ‘The Magnificent Seven’

“The Magnificent Seven” is a remake of a 1960 Western classic, but I’m sad to say the new one does not live up to the original.
That’s not to say it’s bad. The latest edition of “The Magnificent Seven” features a decent cast — think Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke — but it doesn’t have that same spark. If you haven’t seen the original, I’d say this film is passable.
The story is basically this: An evil tycoon wants to take over a town and will do anything to push the inhabitants out. The townsfolk, in turn, hire a group of basically mercenaries to protect their land.
The film has some solid moments, but overall it’s just OK.
