PHOENIX — Everyone walked away from a fiery multivehicle crash on a Phoenix-area freeway early Friday morning.

Authorities said a dump truck and at least seven other vehicles were caught in a wild accident on eastbound U.S. 60 at Loop 101 near Tempe and Mesa. There were no serious injuries.

The wreckage blocked most of the lanes at Alma School Road in Mesa, though later the fire appeared out and traffic was being allowed through in the HOV lane.

The dump truck crossed lanes and vaulted the center median wall. It smashed into cars while landing and debris from the wreckage hit other cars.

“It was a miracle nobody was seriously injured in this,” highway patrol Capt. Damon Cecil told KTAR Arizona’s Morning News.

The truck and two other cars burned. Mesa Fire and Medical said it treated 11 victims, the majority of whom were minimally injured or not at all.

“The troopers that got there on scene initially said that it was like the apocalypse,” Cecil said.

The freeway was closed at Alma School Road and was reopened about 10:30 a.m.
