PHOENIX — If you owe back taxes to the state of Arizona, you have just been given a helping hand.

Gov. Doug Ducey is once again rolling out a program that will allow those who owe money to the state to repay it without any penalty, interest or criminal prosecution.

“The tax recovery program offers a great way for individuals or businesses who fell behind on their taxes to make good on their obligations,” Ducey said in a press release.

“By collecting what is owed, we’re providing assistance to those seeking to comply with the law, ensuring fairness and keeping Arizona’s budget balanced.”

The program began again on Thursday. It runs through Oct. 31.

Shaun Laux with the Arizona Department of Revenue said the program is essentially amnesty for those who have fallen behind in paying what they owe.

Unlike last year, those who owe money will be given the option to pay it all back by the close of the program or pay in 24 monthly installments ending Oct. 31, 2018.

“The availability of payment plans provides individuals and businesses that were set back by the Great Recession with some budgetary flexibility to pay their tax obligations,” State Revenue Director David Briant said in a press release.

Last year, the program brought in $55 million.
