Police: 3 dead in shooting at Detroit home

Nov 8, 2013, 3:55 PM

DETROIT (AP) – Two men and a woman are dead following a shooting at a two-story, multi-family home on Detroit’s west side, police said Friday.

Officers responded shortly after 1 a.m. Friday following a 911 call reporting bodies at the home and found them all with gunshot wounds, Sgt. Mike Woody told The Associated Press by telephone. Woody said all three were pronounced dead at the scene.

They were identified as a 22-year-old woman and men ages 32 and 35, Woody said. Names weren’t immediately released. Investigators were on the scene all morning and Woody said there was no immediate indication of what led to the shooting.

At the scene, The Detroit News reported that Woody approached and spoke with two people, and a woman wailed in grief as her companion hugged her.

“I had to tell her that it was her daughter,” Woody said. “It’s a very tragic situation. I can feel for the family because I have a daughter who’s not much older than her daughter.”

Tips are being sought by police, who went over forensic evidence at the home, Woody said.

The deaths were reported two days after the fatal shooting of three men in a back gambling room of an east side barbershop during a gunfight that wounded six others. In that case, a convicted felon who was wearing body armor when police arrested him is in custody.
