MOORESVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Twenty people were hurt Friday, one critically, when a bus carrying North Carolina National Guard soldiers overturned north of Charlotte, authorities said.
The crash occurred in Mooresville, which is about 25 miles north of Charlotte. Mooresville city spokeswoman Kim Sellers said 11 people were taken to a local hospital. Sellers said one person was listed in critical condition.
Aerial coverage by local television stations showed one person being strapped onto a stretcher. The coverage also showed soldiers standing next to the overturned bus, unloading duffel bags. Another view captured a woman carrying a small child running up to a soldier and giving the soldier a hug.
Randleman-based Holiday Tours operated the bus. A company spokesman says the bus was one of two carrying soldiers from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to the National Guard Armory in Salisbury.
Another company spokesman said the wreck is being investigated and company officials are at the scene.
