Newtown report expected to be released in fall

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – A report on the investigation into the Newtown school shooting that left 26 people dead will not be available until the fall, prosecutors said Tuesday.
The announcement marks the latest delay in the timeline for the report on the Dec. 14 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the massacre, which sparked new legislation in Connecticut and beyond on issues including gun control and school safety.
The prosecutor leading the investigation, Danbury State’s Attorney Stephen J. Sedensky III, met Tuesday with the chief state’s attorney and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s chief of staff to provide an update on the investigation. They did not release any new details in the case.
In a statement, prosecutors said Sedensky expects to issue his report in the fall.
“The scale of the investigation is such that even a fall release of the State’s Attorney’s report is well within what would be expected from this type of investigation,” they said in the statement.
In January, Sedensky had estimated the investigation could be finished by the summer, perhaps June. In May, a Connecticut state police spokesman said it could take until September.
The lone gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, killed his mother at their Newtown home, then fatally shot 20 first-graders and six educators at the school before killing himself as police arrived.
State police are leading the investigation, which also involves several federal agencies.
