LISTEN: Senator John McCain - Bastille Day attack

Following another supposed terrorist attack, the president of the United States is being blamed once again for what transpired.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) joined Bruce St. James and Pamela Hughes on KTAR News 92.3 FM Friday and pointed the finger at President Barack Obama’s policies for the mass killings in Nice, France.

“As far as the tragedy in France is concerned, obviously it’s an act of mayhem and despicable, but I also have to tell you — our prayers are with the families obviously and the French people — but I also have to tell you, that as long as we have a leadership in this country, the president of the United States who allowed this to happen, his policies are directly responsible for ISIS and ISIS is responsible for these attacks,” McCain said.

“We had the war won, thanks to the service of so many brave Americans that sacrificed their blood and treasure and the president decided to pull everybody out of Iraq. Al-Qaeda went to Syria, became ISIS and we watched ISIS grow and take over the second-largest city in Iraq and the story we all know. If we want to stop these attacks, we’ve got to go to Raqqa.

“It’s either we kill them there, or we will kill them here. The president has no strategy and no, in my view at least in the short-term, ability or willingness to attack this evil.”

At least 84 people were killed and 50 others were wounded Thursday when a large truck plowed through crowds during Bastille Day, a French national holiday. Since the attack, the French president Francois Hollande called for a state of emergency to last at least three months, and said, “All of France is under threat from Islamist terrorism.”

No group has come forward and claimed to be behind the attack yet, but ISIS is a usual suspect.

“One of the reasons that ISIS is doing so well and attracting adherence from all over the world is because they’re succeeding,” McCain said. “They’re succeeding, and by any measurement, they are succeeding. Are we giving them some setbacks in Iraq and Syria? Yes, as the president incrementally increases our military involvement there. But as far as having a real long-term strategy or in order to take out this evil, he just doesn’t have it. Remember, this is the president that called ISIS the JV. The JV! Well, it seems to me the JV is at it again, this time tragically in Nice.

“This president has failed miserably and all this stuff didn’t have to happen, and I’m sorry to say that I predicted everything that has happened, and I predict more attacks, just as the Director of National Intelligence and the head of the CIA have predicted. This president has failed America and the world.”

This wasn’t the first time McCain took offense to Obama’s policies and thought they were the reason that the recent terrorist attacks have happened. Days after 49 people were killed in Orlando at a nightclub in an attack of terrorist nature, McCain said that Obama’s policies were “directly responsible” for that incident.

McCain just simply doesn’t believe that Obama has a plan of what to do, and so he offered his own thoughts on what the U.S. needs to do in order to stop future terrorist attacks from happening.

“To start with in the short-term, we have to form a coalition, which these other Sunni nations would be willing to do,” McCain said. “A hundred-thousand force, 10,000 of them being Americans, the rest of them from the Sunni-Arab countries, go to Raqqa and destroy them there. You have to take out their base. Right now in Raqqa, there’s a chemical weapons factory. Right now in Raqqa, Baghdadi is calling in young men, giving them secure and saying, ‘Join the refugee flow and we’ll attack the United States and European countries.’

“So you have to kill them. Then you have to long term address this whole problem of radical Islamic terrorism, which is infecting so many young people, particularly young men and causing them to be willing to take their lives in order to take the lives of others.”
