ASU ranks fairly well among universities around the globe

Arizona State University placed in the top half of one percent among 25,000 universities worldwide. That is from the newest college and university ranking by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR).
ASU finished ahead of schools like Michigan State University, the University of Amsterdam and Georgetown University. ASU’s Chief Innovation Officer, Sethuraman Panchanathan, said the rankings are evidence of the school’s improving reputation. He hears that when he talks with faculty and staff from others schools at national conferences.
“They look at ASU and they are really amazed by the progress we are making,” Panchanathan said. “Some are even curious to know how we are making this progress.”
The CWUR rankings were also subdivided into categories like alumni employment, quality of faculty and influence. Another category was invention patents, where ASU ranked 27th in the world. Panchanathan said CWUR took note of several of the university’s patents, such as an energy patent, which produces the next generation of advanced battery technology.
“We have got $600 million of venture capital investment in ASU’s related patents and ideas,” Panchanthan said.
He said ASU’s reputation has also improved among companies.
“Top employers choose ASU graduates as somebody that they want to hire,” Panchanthan said. “When [employers] look back later, they say that ASU grads have really proved their value.”
He said rankings are not an objective, but an outcome of creating quality students and being competitive globally.
