GE recalls dishwashers over fire fears

General Electric announced Monday that it is voluntarily recalling 1.3 million dishwashers that may be a potential fire hazard.
The affected brands are GE, GE Adora, GE Eterna, GE Profile and Hotpoint, all of which were sold between March 2006 and August 2009 and retailed between $350 and $850.
According to a press release, GE received reports that at least 15 units had experienced electrical failure — seven of which resulted in fires — as of Aug. 9, 2012.
Consumers who own one of the affected dishwashers are instructed to cut the power supply to the unit immediately and contact GE. The units should not be returned as retailers aren’t ready to handle the returns.
