NC Democratic strategist dies after stabbing

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – A Democratic political strategist who helped raise money for John Edwards’ 2008 presidential campaign and served as finance director for North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan’s winning campaign that same year has died after being stabbed in her Raleigh home.
Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue (shuh-GREW’) said Wednesday that 31-year-old Jonathan Broyhill has been arrested. He had been charged with attempted murder prior to the death of 29-year-old Jameson Kirk Hahn at a local hospital on Wednesday.
Sughrue said police will now present “probable cause for an arrest warrant charging him with murder.”
Broyhill is accused of stabbing Hahn and her husband, Nation Richard Hahn, 29, at their home Monday evening. A wedding announcement in a South Carolina newspaper listed Broyhill as the best man at the couple’s wedding in April 2009.
Police have not commented on a motive for the stabbings.
