HAZEL DELL, Wash. (AP) – The cash stolen in a Thursday afternoon robbery of a southwest Washington state credit union wasn’t gone for long, thanks to some alert witnesses and two passing state liquor control agents.
Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Fred Neiman says two men robbed an IQ Credit Union in Hazel Dell and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Several witnesses followed as the robbers headed into the parking lot of a nearby mall, then climbed into a taxi van.
Neiman says two Washington state liquor control agents were passing by. The witnesses told them the robbers were getting away in the taxi. The liquor agents followed the taxi south on Interstate 5 until they were joined by State Patrol troopers and sheriff’s deputies.
The spokesman says the taxi was stopped and the two men and a woman were arrested. Neiman says all the stolen cash was recovered.
