LISTEN: Former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer - Mac and Gaydos Election Insider

Former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said Tuesday that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is not a racist or a bigot, despite numerous attempts to label him one.

“I know Mr. Trump,” she told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Mac & Gaydos. “I know what’s in my heart. I know what people that believe in the rule of law and they’re not racist and they’re not bigots.”

Brewer said the accusations that Trump is a racist and a bigot have been touted mainly by the left side of politics who use such words as a crutch to fall back on.

“I just simply can’t believe it that every time the left wants to attack conservatives or Republicans, it’s always, always about race,” she said. “They always throw out the race card and bigotry. It doesn’t matter what the issue is.”

Brewer’s comments came just a few days after she erupted during a CNN panel, saying she was tired of being labeled a bigot herself because she supports Trump. She echoed that same sentiment Tuesday.

“They (the left) race-bait everything and I get fed up with it,” she told Mac & Gaydos.

“The rhetoric just gets old,” she said. “Is that all they can do is name-call?”

Despite her fervent support of Trump, the former governor said the New York billionaire has said some things she doesn’t agree with, specifically citing his attacks on a federal judge.

“I will admit that Donald Trump, on some occasions, has used a bad choice of words,” Brewer said.

However, she said she may understand why Trump lashed out.

“I do believe that in that circumstance he felt that he was being mistreated,” she said.
