Rich Products expands Ga. plant frozen food recall

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Rich Products Corp. is now recalling all of its frozen snack foods produced at its Waycross, Ga., plant.
The Buffalo, N.Y., company last week announced a voluntary recall of certain Farm Rich and Market Day products because of possible E. coli contamination. It has now expanded the recall to include everything made at the Georgia plant.
Twenty-seven people in 15 states have become ill with E. coli infections, with about a third requiring hospitalization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday. Information available so far points to Farm Rich products as one likely source of infection, the agency said.
Health officials have identified the outbreak strain in two different Farm Rich products _ frozen Mini Pizza Slices and frozen chicken quesadillas _ collected from the Texas and New York homes of two people who became ill, the CDC said.
The recalled products, including Mozzarella Bites and Pizza Dippers, have “best by” dates from Jan. 1, 2013, to Sept. 29, 2014. They were produced between July 1, 2011, and March 29.
The company said Friday it doesn’t know of any illness linked to the newly recalled products.
The nationwide recall does not affect products made at Rich’s other facilities.
