PHOENIX — Three children under the age of 9 were found dead in their Phoenix home early Thursday morning, and their 29-year-old pregnant mother was the main suspect, police said.
Authorities said the boys — 8-year-old Jaikare Rahaman, 5-year-old Jeremiah Adams and 2-month-old Avery Robinson — had been stabbed multiple times each and hidden in a closet in a house near 25th Avenue and Bell Road.
At least two of the boys were partially dismembered.
A family member returning from his job forced his way into the house around 11:30 p.m. and discovered his sister bleeding from several stab wounds in the stomach and neck.
He called 911.
The woman was hospitalized in critical condition but was expected to survive. She had also tried to drown herself in the bathtub.
“Absolutely horrific,” Sgt. Trent Crump said.
The unidentified woman lives in the house with her brother and mother.
Residents said the neighborhood of townhomes was quiet, and the older boys frequently rode bicycles outside.
“Kids are supposed to feel good in this neighborhood,” said Frank Segura, who lives across the street.
“It’s heartbreaking. They’re just nice kids.”
Next-door neighbor Shelley Severns said her children played with the older boys, whom she called “cute little things.”
Severns added, “I’m still processing all of this. It’s very tragic …”
