SAN BRUNO, Calif. (AP) – Authorities have determined a foot and section of leg that washed onto a California beach belong to a missing hiker.
San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault said Wednesday investigators have identified the appendages as those of 27-year-old Joseph McHenry. They made the ID using DNA from his mother.
McHenry disappeared in March after telling his family he was going camping overnight in Pacifica. Police found his car and backpack.
A fisherman spotted the foot in the surf off a Pacifica beach on March 25.
The coroner’s office has not declared McHenry dead. But San Bruno police say their investigation is now closed.
Lt. Geoff Caldwell tells the San Mateo County Times (
