Democrats wrap up nominating convention

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Confetti and Bruce Springteen music filled the arena as the Democratic National Convention concluded Thursday with President Barack Obama telling delegates that the journey ahead won’t be easy, but it will lead to a better place.
Democratic officials changed the venue from a 74,000-seat football stadium to Time Warner Cable Arena because of forecasts calling for thunderstorms. That change prompted the cancellation of the traditional balloon drop. It also left thousands shut out of the final day’s festivities, but many were still able to watch elsewhere, such as at the city’s convention center.
A week earlier, Republican nominee Mitt Romney used his acceptance speech to emphasize how Obama’s promise of hope gave way to disappointment and division. Obama made the case that the economy is gradually healing.
