Arizona schools group: Prop 123 money will get to teachers

May 23, 2016, 5:30 AM | Updated: 11:29 am

One local group says Prop 123 money will get to teachers and classrooms.

There is no mandate in the bill for schools to spend the dollars on teacher raises or classroom items. However, Dr. Timothy Ogle with the Arizona School Boards Association said the group’s members will make sure it goes to either or both.

“Those folks are elected directly, by local voters, to represent local values,” he said. “There isn’t a mandate but there certainly is community expectation.”

Proposition 123 withdraws a larger percentage of interest from the state land trust over the next 10 years. Supporters said it would give schools almost $4 billion over the next 10 years.
