HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. (AP) – An Air Force squadron commander has been relieved following the crash of a tilt-rotor CV-22 Osprey from his unit in the Florida Panhandle.
Col. Jim Slife, commander of the 1st Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field, Fla., said on Thursday that Lt. Col. Matthew Glover was relieved due to a loss of confidence in his ability to lead the 8th Special Operations Squadron.
Five crew members suffered non-life threatening injuries in the June 13 crash.
The aircraft went down during a gunnery training mission on Eglin Air Force Base’s military reservation north of Navarre. The base is east of Pensacola.
Slife said new leadership is needed “to maintain the highest levels of precision and to reliably support the ground forces” that count on the squadron for their missions.
