Sen. Bob Dole’s sister, Norma Steele, dies

RUSSELL, Kan. (AP) – Norma Jean Steele, the sister of Kansas Sen. Bob Dole, has died. She was 86.
Don Varner, owner of the funeral home that handled services for Steele, said Saturday that Steele died Wednesday in Russell. Varner said the cause of death was not listed.
Steele was born on Oct. 24, 1925, to Bina Marie and Doran Ray Dole. Her husband, Allen Thomas Steele Jr., preceded her in death.
Steele’s survivors include Dole, who represented Kansas in the U.S. Senate from 1969 to 1996. He also was the GOP presidential nominee in the 1996 presidential race, which he lost.
Steele is also survived by two sons, Michael, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Joseph, of Arkansas City, Kan., as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services and burial were Saturday in Russell.
