DECATUR, Ga. (AP) – Two people killed outside a suburban Atlanta church shot each other during a fight after a funeral of a slain teen, police said Friday.
A 19-year-old got into a fight with a group of people Thursday outside Victory for the World Baptist Church in Stone Mountain following the service for 19-year-old Ryan Guider, said DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish. The fight continued in the parking lot, where the teen got a gun from his car and he and a 28-year-old fired shots, killing each other and wounding two others.
The county medical examiner’s office identified the 19-year-old as Carlos Henderson Jr. and the 28-year-old as Deimetrius Heard. Henderson was believed to have been a friend of Guider’s and both men had attended the funeral, Parish said.
Parish did not identify the two wounded, but says their injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening. Detectives believe they know the cause of the fight but are not releasing that information, Parish said.
Authorities have said Guider was shot May 26 by Marcus D. Ventress, 28, in retaliation for a home burglary. Authorities said he was not at the funeral, but they’re still seeking him on a murder charge in Guider’s death, Parish said.
