VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) – A coroner says a Texas man who held a northwestern Indiana realty office hostage during an hours-long standoff died from two self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head.
Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said Tuesday’s autopsy on 48-year-old Roy L. Ferguson found that the Fulshear, Texas, man also had a third gunshot wound to his upper right torso, but that it did not contribute to his death.
Harris said he could not comment on whether the wound to Ferguson’s torso was caused by a bullet fired by police officers or by Ferguson during Friday’s nearly seven-hour standoff at a Valparaiso, Ind., realty office.
Valparaiso Police Chief Michael Brickner has said officers believe Ferguson fatally shot himself about two hours after he released the last two of his hostages.
