EAGLE POINT, Ore. (AP) – Employees of a southwest Oregon school district are on strike and classes have been canceled as contract negotiations continue.
The strike at Eagle Point began at 6 a.m. Tuesday. The district near Medford has 328 employees, including 186 teachers.
Dave Carrell, acting president of the Eagle Point Education Association, says negotiators have been working all night and are still talking past the deadline.
The two sides have differences on pay, working hours and subcontracting jobs.
The district canceled classes Monday and Tuesday and had said they would resume Wednesday with substitute teachers. But the district now says classes will resume next week. Only a few activities, including varsity sports, are to continue as scheduled.
