LOS ANGELES (AP) – Los Angeles police have identified the tow truck driver who led officers on a slow-speed pursuit on city streets that ended peacefully in Glendale.
Officer Karen Rayner says 31-year-old Ambartsum Sarkisyan surrendered at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday _ more than two hours after the pursuit began at the scene of a traffic collision in the San Fernando Valley.
Rayner says Sarkisyan got into the truck and drove off, nearly hitting a police officer, when officers asked him for proof that he was the legal operator of the vehicle.
Sarkisyan drove on side streets, at times in stop-and-go traffic talking to onlookers through the passenger side window.
Rayner says Sarkisyan has been booked on assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and is being held on $50,000 bail.
